On July 13, 2021, Heiar and other officers received the Lifesaving Award for rendering aid to an unresponsive individual.[4]

2023 Stalking
On October 23, 2022, Heiar used a police license plate reader system to track his wife, "L.H.", from whom he was separated. Heiar told L.H. that he was aware of her travels.[3]

On October 26, 2022, Heiar was charged with stalking and unlawful acts concerning computers.[5]
On April 5, 2023, Heiar pleaded guilty to misdemeanor stalking and computer crime.[5]
On April 5, 2023, Heiar was sentenced to 2 years in jail but will only serve 18 months of probation.[5]
On August 8, 2023, the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training (POST) revoked Heiar's law enforcement certification for criminal conduct and a lack of good moral character.[3]
