2021 Domestic Violence
This incident occurred after Winters' separation from the agency.
On May 29, 2021, officers from the Hamilton County Kansas Sheriff's Office responded to an incident where Winters got into a fight while camping with his wife, several other members of his family, and others.[1]
The investigation was recorded on the responding officers' body-worn cameras.[1]
Winters was arrested for domestic violence, as he had previously lived with a woman who he hit in the face during the fight.[1]
Response Timeline
On June 9, 2021, the County Attorney charged Winters with two counts of battery and one count of disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors.[1]
On February 14, 2022, Winters entered into a pre-trial diversion program.[1]
On April 18, 2023, the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training (POST) revoked Winters' law enforcement certification due to criminal behavior and a lack of good moral character. Winters did not attend the hearing.[1]
