On July 31, 2021, Sterling was arrested.[1]

On August 9, 2021, a one-year gun violence restraining order was filed against Sterling, which prohibits him from possessing or buying guns, ammunition, or magazines.[5][6]

On October 27, 2023, the state Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) suspended Sterling's certification for being a convicted felon.[7]
