2022 Child Pornography Arrest
In early 2022, the department received a complaint that Newton was taking indecent liberties with a child in his care. An investigation found that Newton was in possession of images including pornography depicting children under one year old and bestiality.[4][1][5]

On November 9, 2022, a search warrant was issued for Newton's phone.[6]
On November 15, 2022, Newton was arrested on 24 felony child pornography charges.[5]
Newton was suspended without pay.[4]
Newton resigned.[3]
Newton was charged with one count of possession of child pornography, 34 counts of possession of child pornography subsequent offense, one count of obscene image depicting sexual abuse of an animal, and two counts of indecent liberties by a custodian.[7]
On October 24, 2023, Newton pleaded guilty to 38 felony child pornography charges. Newton faces up to 360 years in prison.[3]
On March 29, 2024, Newton received a 360 year sentence and will serve 25 years in prison.[7]
