2021 Death of Isaiah Rodriguez
On November 3, 2021, Castro was off-duty and driving approximately 90 mph in a 25 mph school zone when he hit a vehicle containing 12-year-old Rodriguez and his sister.[1][2]
Rodriguez died at the hospital.[1]
The incident was captured on a surveillance camera.[3]
Response Timeline
On February 14, 2023, Castro was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter, and reckless driving causing great bodily injury. Castro faces up to 25 years to life if convicted.[1][4][5]
On September 6, 2024, Castro pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.[5]
On September 25, 2024, Castro was sentenced to 6 years in prison. Castro surrendered his certification.[6]
