2023 Assault of Beezer DuBose Jr

Witness video

On October 12, 2023, officers stopped DeBose for illegal window tint. Officers claimed to see drugs in the car and ordered the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle. After DeBose was handcuffed, Callegari punched him several times in the head.[4][4][5]

The incident was captured on a witness's camera[4] and officers' body-worn cameras.[6]

Response Timeline

Callegari was placed on leave.[5]

The city's Office of Professional Responsibility opened an investigation.[4]

Callegari was cleared to return to work.[5]

2024 Death of Robert Sayen

On March 29, 2024, Callegari was driving 56mph in a 40mph area as he entered an intersection on a flashing yellow light. Sayen entered the intersection against a flashing red light, crashing into Callegari's vehicle.[5]

Sayen died at the hospital.[7]

The incident was captured on surveillance video.[8]

Response Timeline

In April 2024, Callegari was placed on administrative duty.[7]
