New York City New York Police Department Tow Truck Scheme (2020-2021)
Overview
Between May 2020 and May 2021, New York City New York Police Department officers James Davneiro and Giancarlo Osma would recommend a towing and repair company operated by former officer Michael Perri in exchange for bribes and in violation of department policy.[1]
In June 2020, Perri resigned to start his own towing company.[1]
On October 1, 2021, Davneiro, Osma, and Perri were each indicted on one count of conspiracy to violate the Travel Act and one count of using interstate facilities to commit bribery.[2] Davneiro and Osma were suspended without pay.[3]
In November 2021, Davneiro resigned.[1]
On November 15, 2022, Perri pleaded guilty. He faces up to five years in prison and will forfeit over $150,000.[1]
On November 16, 2022, Osma pleaded guilty and resigned from the department. He faces up to five years in prison and will forfeit approximately $26,000.[1]
On November 17, 2022, Davneiro pleaded guilty. He faces up to five years in prison and will forfeit $25,000.[1]
