2019 Sexual Assault

On December 12, 2019, Geerdes was off-duty and attending a holiday party when he twice sexually assaulted a woman.[1]

Response Timeline

On December 28, 2020, the city hired an independent investigator.[1]

On February 16, 2021, the investigator issued their findings, and Geerdes was informed that he might be disciplined.[1]

On February 21, 2021, Geerdes submitted his resignation in lieu of termination, effective March 15, 2021.[3]

Around March 1, 2021, Geerdes accused another officer of "ratting him out" and falsifying information. Geerdes threatened the officer's career and family.[4][1]

In December 2022, Geerdes was indicted by a grand jury on four counts of sexual contact and one for retaliation against a witness.[5]

On December 6, 2022, Geerdes was terminated by the Black Hawk Colorado Police Department.[1]

On June 23, 2023, Geerdes was charged with attempting to influence a public servant and forgery, both felonies.[5]

On January 23, 2024, Geerdes pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of unlawful sexual contact and official misconduct, and a felony count of forgery. Geerdes faces up to three years in prison and will be listed on the state sex offender registry for four years.[6]

On April 1, 2024, Geerdes was sentenced to four years probation. Geerdes will lose his certification.[7]

2021 Forgery

Between February 24, 2021 and August 26, 2021, Geerdes applied for positions with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Arvada Police Department, RTD Transit Police Department, Dacono Police Department, and the Black Hawk Police Department. Geerdes stated that he had not resigned in lieu of termination from his former position.[3]
