Response Timeline

On May 5, 2022, a police investigation reviewed "sufficient evidence to clearly prove" the three earlier allegations against Martel. Other allegations were not sustained, due to a lack of information.[1]

2020 Voyeurism

In the summer of 2020, in an "online setting", Martel took a "digital image of an intimate area" of a woman he knew without her consent.[3]

On June 2, 2021, the Essex Police Department received a complaint of voyeurism against Martel.[4][3]

In June 2021, the State Police opened an investigation at the request of the Essex Police Department.[3]

Martel was suspended.[3]

On October 5, 2021, the State's Attorney placed a Brady letter in Martel's file, stating that they were unable "to rely on his testimony as a credible witness".[1]

On October 29, 2021, Martel was issued a citation on suspicion of voyeurism.[5]

On February 23, 2022, the charges were dismissed due to "insurmountable evidentiary issues".[1]

On February 21, 2024, the Vermont Criminal Justice Council decertified Martel for unprofessional conduct in committing misdemeanor voyeurism. Martel can reapply after 7 years.[4]
