2004 Theft
Kuhl had been arrested in 2004 for theft by deception, but failed to disclose it when he applied to work at the Fort Myers Police Department. A neighbor discovered the arrest in 2021 as part of an unrelated disagreement between the two men and reported it to the department.[1]

On December 7, 2021, Kuhl was fired for behavior that was "contrary to the Code of Ethics, Department Policy, and our high standards", according to the Police Chief.[1]
On December 8, 2021, the union filed a grievance in an attempt to reverse the firing.[1]
