2018 Shooting of Daryll Speer
On January 8, 2018, Galindo and Deputy Alex Millan responded to a call of two people running through backyards and had broken into a car. One person was described as carrying something wrapped in a tan blanket. The officers found Speer and another person in the area. Speer was carrying an object wrapped in a tan blanket. As the officers attempted to make contact, the blanket slipped, revealing a firearm.[1]
Galindo went back to the patrol car to get a rifle. Speer raised the weapon towards Galindo, prompting Millan to fire, striking Speer.[1]
Audio of the incident was captured on Galindo's belt recorder.[1]
Response Timeline
On January 7, 2020, Speer sued Milan, Galindo, the county, and others.[3]
On April 27, 2020, the District Attorney cleared Millan, finding that "Speer posed an imminent threat of serious body injury or death" and the "use of deadly force was justified".[1]
On October 20, 2021, a jury returned a verdict in favor of the officers.[4]
