2015 Sexual Assault
On June 12, 2015, Stewart responded to a report of a stolen car. After taking the report, Stewart entered the pregnant female caller's apartment and coerced her into committing a sex act.[1]
On June 13, 2015, Stewart resigned from the department.[1]
Response Timeline
On June 16, 2015, the department announced that it had started a criminal and internal investigation.[2]
Stewart's resignation ended the internal affairs investigation.[1]
In 2015, prosecutors declined to file charges.[1]
On January 31, 2018, Stewart was charged with Felony Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the 1st Degree.[3]
On June 13, 2018, the woman filed a civil lawsuit against Stewart, accusing him of violating her constitutional rights by holding her captive.[4]
On November 24, 2021, prosecutors dismissed the state's case against Stewart as the victim did not show up to testify. Charges could be refiled.[1]
