2024 Arrest of Twyla Stallworth
On February 23, 2024, Stallworth called police for a noise complaint on her neighbor. After not getting a response from the police, Stallworth activated her car alarm. The neighbor called police for a noise complaint against Stalworth. Barton responded to the incident.[1]
Barton demanded identification from Stallworth. When Stallworth refused, Barton told her that she was under arrest and ordered her to put her hands behind her back. Stallworth refused, and entered her house.[2]
Barton arrested Stallworth and charged her with resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental operations, and attempting to elude police.[2]
The incident was captured on body-worn camera and a witness's cell phone video.[2]
Response Timeline
The Mayor announced that Barton had been "disciplined for failing in his duty to know the law".[2]
The entire department was ordered to receive additional training in city ordinances and constitutional and state law.[2]
The charges against Stallworth were dropped.[1]
In April 2024, Stallworth filed a lawsuit against Barton, the department, and the city.[1]
