2024 Shooting

On July 19, 2024, Gossage attempted to stop a vehicle for an expired license plate. The driver slowed down and fled on foot, holding a "small dark object". Gossage fired his service weapon at the driver, striking an uninvolved, occupied vehicle. The driver was not located.[2]

The incident was captured on an in-vehicle camera.[4]

Response Timeline

Gossage was placed on administrative leave.[2]

An investigation determined that Gossage had violated agency policy regarding Response to Resistance and the Use of Deadly Force.[2]

On July 29, 2024, Gossage resigned.[2]

On July 29, 2024, Gossage was charged with first degree assault and criminal attempt to commit first degree battery.[2]
