2019 Arrest of Jarius Brown

On September 27, 2019, Brown was arrested on a stolen vehicle charge. He alleges that several deputies, including Pouncy, beat him at the jail, breaking his nose and eye socket.[1]

A state trooper captured video on his body-worn camera at the jail, showing Brown beaten and unresponsive to questioning.[3]

Response Timeline

On September 24, 2021, a lawsuit was filed against Pouncy.[4]

The Louisiana State Police opened an investigation.[5]

The United States Attorney's Office opened an investigation.[5]

On September 7, 2023, a federal grand jury indicted Pouncy for unreasonable use of force, failure to obtain medical care, and filing a false report. Pouncy faces up to 40 years in jail.[5][6]

In April 2024, Pouncy pleaded guilty to depriving a detainee of his civil rights under color of law by willfully using unreasonable force by willfully using unreasonable force against the detainee. Pouncy faces 30-37 months in prison.[7]

On October 16, 2024, Pouncy was sentenced to 37 months in prison.[8]

2021 Deer Poaching

On December 5, 2021, game wardens responded to a report of gunfire. They found Pouncy and three other men in a department patrol vehicle, using a spotlight to hunt deer. Pouncy was off-duty at the time.[9]

Response Timeline

Pouncy was suspended.[2]

Pouncy was cited for hunting without a license, hunting deer during illegal hours, and for hunting from a moving vehicle.[9]

The Red River Parish Sheriff's Office charged Pouncy with trespassing.[9]

Conviction on all charges would carry maximum penalties of $2,000 in fines and 240 days in jail.[9]
