2021 Road Rage
On August 26, 2021, Annapolis Maryland Police Department officers responded to a report of road rage. The victim claimed that Thornley cut off her vehicle. After parking, she confronted him, and Thornley pointed his duty weapon at her and threatened to shoot if she didn't back up. Thornley was off duty, in his personal vehicle, and was in uniform after leaving work.[1]
Thornley admitted to officers that he brandished his firearm at the woman.[1]

On September 23, 2021, Thornley was suspended without pay.[3]
County police opened an Internal Affairs investigation.[1]
On September 24, 2021, Thornley was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in a violent crime.[4]
