2021 Sexual Assault
Between 1989 and 2009, Carey worked as the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) officer in a school, was a volunteer firefighter, and ran a program for troubled youth.[1]
In 2020, a man reported that Carey had sexually assaulted him multiple times when he was a teenager in 1997.[2]
An investigation found that Carey used his positions in the community to sexually assault 5 boys.[1] Carey threatened the boys with arrest and warned them that nobody would believe them if they reported the assaults.[2]

On October 27, 2022, Carey pleaded no contest to five counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors, seven counts of indecent assault, two counts each of statutory rape and statutory sexual assault, and one count of aggravated indecent assault.[1] Carey faced a maximum of 94 to 185 years in prison.[2]
On November 30, 2022, Carey asked to withdraw his plea.[2]
On March 21, 2023, Carey was sentenced 24 1/2 to 55 years in state prison.[1]
