Response Timeline
Herrera admitted to suggesting the plan to abandon James.[3]
Herrera was terminated.[3]
James filed a lawsuit against the department and the officers.[4]
On January 29, 2024, the city reportedly settled the lawsuit for $3 million.[5]
2022 Domestic Violence
On September 27, 2022, Herrera was arrested for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant.[6][7]
Response Timeline
On October 3, 2022, Herrera was granted a temporary restraining order against a woman.[8]
On October 19, 2022, the restraining order was vacated.[8]
