2019 Firearm Theft

Gonzalez left a rifle and shotgun in his convertible before they were stolen.[3]

The department does not issue patrol rifles to officers, but allows them to qualify on and carry their own weapons.[3]

Response Timeline

Gonzalez was charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Gonzalez faces up to a year in prison and a $2,000 fine.[3]

Gonzalez filed reports that he had stopped drivers and written warning citations.[2]

In April 2021, a driver called the department to ask about a warning citation they had received.[2]

Response Timeline

An investigation determined that Gonzalez had, "on numerous occasions over the course of several months", written warning citations for vehicles that he had never stopped.[2][5]

On June 18, 2021, Gonzalez resigned.[1][5]

On February 7, 2022, Gonzalez was charged with five counts of computer crime 3 and five counts of forgery.[5]

On February 9, 2023, the state's Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council revoked Gonzalez's police certification.[6]

Gonzalez pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of third-degree forgery and misdemeanor fourth-degree computer crime. Gonzalez received a suspended sentence of 364 days in jail and three years of probation.[7]
