2021 Robbery

On November 3, 2021, Cole was off-duty when he entered a pharmacy and handed a technician a note saying that he had a gun and was demanding prescription painkillers. The technician informed their supervisor, who called police.[5][1]

Cole was given 11 bottles of medication and left the pharmacy. Responding officers located Cole, who attempted to flee before surrendering. Cole was found to be carrying a handgun.[1]

Part of the incident was captured on surveillance video.[1]

Response Timeline

On November 9, 2021, Cole was charged with felony second-degree robbery and misdemeanor resisting arrest.[6]

Cole was placed on unpaid leave.[3]

On September 26, 2022, Cole pleaded no contest to two counts of felony second-degree robbery.[1]

On December 22, 2022, Cole was sentenced to 130 days in jail, followed by 234 days to be served in a residential treatment program. Cole was placed on probation for three years, and must pay fines and fees.[3][7]

On April 5, 2023, the state's Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) ruled that Cole was ineligible for certification due to "Egregious or Repeated Acts that Violate the Law".[8]
