2019 Sexual Conduct with a Minor

Response Timeline

In April 2019, Savage was indicted by a grand jury and charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.[4]

The case was dismissed when the victim refused to testify.[4]

2019 Domestic Violence

Savage argued with a woman, attempted to take her cell phone, and punched her in the back of the head.[4]

Response Timeline

In October 2019, Savage was charged with domestic violence and assault.[4]

Savage pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. Save was sentenced to 30 days in jail, which was suspended. ‎

2023 Death of Ryan Mitchell

On March 12, 2023, Savage responded to a report of a hit and run driver, and located Mitchell as he was heading into Kentucky. Savage attempted to stop Mitchell, who failed to stop. During the pursuit, Mitchell lost control of his vehicle and crashed. [5]

Savage drove back to Ohio without calling for help or stopping to check on Mitchell.[3]

Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene.[3]

Response Timeline

On May 26, 2023, Savage was charged with reckless homicide, failure to render aid, and leaving the scene of an accident.[3][6]

On May 26, 2023, Savage resigned.[3]

On June 9, 2023, Savage pleaded not guilty.[7]

On March 8, 2024, Mitchell's family sued Savage and the city for civil rights violations.[8]
