Scottie Scheffler arrest video: Both camera angles from Louisville police

On May 17, 2024, Gillis was performing traffic control duties near a golf course and at the scene of an earlier fatal accident. Gillis claimed that he told Scheffler not to proceed and "was dragged/knocked down by the driver". Gillis suffered pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knee, and was taken to the hospital. Gillis claimed that his uniform pants "were damaged beyond repair".[1][5]

On video, Scheffler can be seen slowly driving into a parking lot. Gillis approached the vehicle and struck the window. Gillis was not dragged or knocked to the ground. Other officers arrived, and Scheffler was removed from the vehicle and handcuffed.[6]

Scheffler was charged with second-degree felony assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.[5]

Gillis, Detective Kelvin Watkins, and Officer Javar Downs did not activate their body-worn cameras. The incident was captured by a street pole camera and an in-vehicle camera.[6]

Response Timeline

On May 29, 2024, the Jefferson County Attorney dropped the charges against Scheffler.[7]
