2019 Death of Suspect
Parks shot and killed a man.[3]
2021 Assault of Mario Garcia
On October 1, 2021, Parks attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding and having tinted windows. Garcia refused to stop. The vehicle crashed.[4][3]
Parks hit Garcia twice with his vehicle, used his Taser on Garcia twice after handcuffing him, slammed Garcia into the back of a police car, and closed a door on his leg.[3]
Parks included inaccurate details in his report.[5]
The incident was captured on body-worn camera.[3]
Response Timeline
On March 8, 2023, Parks was charged with felonious assault, attempted felonious assault, assault, interfering with civil rights, dereliction of duty, and tampering with court records.[6]
Parks was suspended without pay.[7]
On October 18, 2023, Parks pleaded guilty to assault and attempted tampering with records. Parks will surrender his certification.[5][3]
On January 17, 2024, Parks was sentenced to 6 months in prison.[3]
