On November 13, 2019 and November 16, 2019, Montalvo sold AR-15-style rifles.[2][4]

Montalvo was placed on administrative leave during the investigation.[5]
On July 8, 2022, Montalvo resigned.[2]
On November 22, 2022, Montalvo was charged with two felony counts for the manufacture, distribution, sale, or transport of an assault weapon, two felony counts for the possession of assault weapons, and misdemeanors for resisting an executive officer and obstruction.[2][6]
On March 8, 2024, Montalvo pleaded no contest to two counts of misdemeanor obstruction. Prosecutors dropped the earlier felony charges. Montalvo was sentenced to 6 months probation.[6][7]
