2021 Death of Peyton Blitstein

Note that Holen had resigned from the Greenwood Village Police Department before the incident.

On November 24, 2021, an argument broke out between Holen and a group of teenagers that he accused of driving carelessly through the neighborhood. Blitstein shot Holen, who returned fire, killing Blitstein.[2][4]

Holen's blood alcohol level was .193%, above the state limit of .08%.[5]

The incident was captured on a neighbor's doorbell camera.[6]

Response Timeline

On December 22, 2021, Holen was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, felony menacing, and prohibited use of a weapon while drunk.[7]

Holen pleaded not guilty.[8]

On February 13, 2024, a jury convicted Holen of manslaughter and found him not guilty of menacing. Holen faces 2-6 years in prison.[8]

On July 11, 2024, a judge sentenced Holen to two years in prison.[9]
