2017 Domestic Violence
In August 2017, Thieme was arrested for domestic violence.[2]
2017 Arrest of Xenethon Sanders
On November 20, 2017, Thieme stopped Sanders and ordered him to exit his vehicle and lie in the street. Sanders claims that while he was complying, Thieme tackled him, knocking his head into the pavement.[2]
Thieme refused to allow Sanders to be seen by paramedics who were at the scene.[2]
Thieme's report claimed that Sanders was removed from his car at gunpoint and was uncooperative.[2]
Sanders was charged with resisting arrest.[2]

The District Attorney dropped the charge against Sanders.[2]
On April 29, 2019, Sanders filed a lawsuit.[2][3]
In 2021, the lawsuit was settled.[2]
2019 Prisoner Assault
On March 12, 2019, Thieme and other deputies were escorting a prisoner through the jail when Thieme stopped to engage two other prisoners. Thieme quickly grabbed one prisoner and punched him repeatedly. Deputies used pepper spray on the prisoners before handcuffing them. Thieme put his body on top of the prisoner for several minutes.[2]
The incident was captured by surveillance cameras.[2]
2020 Sexual Assault Investigation
On February 8, 2020, a student at Pepperdine University was sexually assaulted. Thieme and another deputy responded, telling the woman that maybe she "imagined it", said there was nothing for them to do as "she was not penetrated", and described the incident as "trespassing". The deputies did not collect surveillance video of the incident.[2]
The incident was captured on a body-worn camera.[2]

2021 Assault of Sarah Jafari
On April 10, 2021, Jafari's mother called police because Jafari was banging her head against the wall. Thieme and other deputies responded. While Jafari was posing no threat, Thieme punched her in the throat. Thieme tased Jafari.[2][4]
In his report, Thieme claimed that Jafari was resisting arrest and reaching for a knife in her waistband.[4]
The incident was partially captured on Thieme's body-worn camera.[4]
Jafari's mother claims that deputies returned and asked her to state that Jafari had a knife.[4]
A supervisor noted inconsistencies between Thieme's report and the body-worn camera video.[4]

On July 24, 2023, the state Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) temporarily suspended Thieme's certification during the criminal proceedings and for "Physical Abuse/Excessive or Unreasonable Use of Force, Dishonesty".[5]
