2021 Arrest of William Cain
On October 8, 2021, Shaw attempted to stop Cain, who led officers on a high-speed pursuit.[4]
At some point after the arrest, Shaw struck Cain with his flashlight.[2]

Shaw was placed on paid leave.[5]
On November 1, 2021, a grand jury indicted Shaw for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.[1]
On November 2, 2021, Shaw resigned.[2]
On April 12, 2024, Shaw pleaded guilty on willful failure to discharge duties. The assault charge was dropped. Shaw will be on unsupervised probation and must complete five hours of community service.[2]
