2010 Silver Star Award
In 2010, Johnson helped save a person in distress on a bridge.[3]
Johnson received a Silver Star Award, which is given for "displaying courageous actions, which were above and beyond that which is normally expected".[4]
2017 Medal of Valor Award
On May 21, 2017, Johnson and other officers were dispatched to an assault involving an armed man. Johnson pursued the man into an apartment and used his Taser to subdue him.[5]
In March 2018, Johnson received the Medal of Valor Award, the highest recognition of achievement presented by the department, for "extraordinary acts of bravery or heroism above and beyond that normally expected in the line of duty".[5]
2018 Lifesaving Award
On November 21, 2018, Johnson rescued a man from a burning vehicle.[6]
In March 2019, Johnson received the Lifesaving Award, for saving "a human life under unusual and/or extraordinary circumstances".[6]

2020 Shooting
In 2020, officers pulled over a vehicle that they suspected was related to several robberies. The driver displayed a pistol, and the officers withdrew and called the SWAT team. Johnson and Officer Dale Harvey responded, and eventually shot the man.[7]
2022 Death of Robert Bradley

On March 9, 2023, the mother of Bradley's children filed a wrongful death lawsuit.[9]
In March 2024, the Spokane Prosecutor's Office determined that the use of force was justified as the officers were in fear for their lives.[10]
On August 22, 2024, Bradley's fiancé filed a lawsuit against the city, Johnson, Walker, and other officers.[11]
2023 Arrest of Reily Arambul
On May 10, 2023, Johnson and other officers responded to a call of a man who was yelling and brandishing a firearm. Johnson located Arambul, who fled on foot. Johnson chased Arambul, but lost sight of him. Johnson located Amarbul in a vehicle that he was carjacking, where he pointed a gun at Johnson. Johnson fired, prompting Arambul to drop his weapon and surrender.[12]
Arambul was not injured.[12]

On January 19, 2024, the county Prosecutor's Office determined that the use of force was justified and no charges would be filed against Johnson.[12]

On January 31, 2024, police received a call about an armed man who was threatening to kill himself and others. Johnson and other officers arrived and located the man, who ignored orders to drop the gun. The man raised the gun towards officers, prompting 9 officers to shoot him.[2]
The man died at the hospital.[2]
The incident was captured on the officers' body-worn cameras.[2]
The other officers involved were William Braten, Michael Brunner, Steven Donges, Will Dowsing, Trystan Herzog, Ryan McLucas, Dylan Pavlischak, and Andrew Wilson.[13]
