2023 Death of Michael Bresnahan
On July 17, 2023, Bresnahan stabbed his estranged wife at a domestic violence shelter. Bresnahan stole a rifle from his brother.[4]
Officers located Bresnahan, who pointed the rifle at officers. Bresnahan led officers on a chase before crashing his vehicle and shooting at the officers. Eighteen officers including Holmstrom returned fire.[4]
Bresnahan died.[4]
The incident was captured on body-worn cameras and aerial cameras.[4]

The officers were placed on paid administrative leave.[4]
2023 Misuse of Authority
On August 30, 2023, Holmstrom's personal vehicle was towed from his apartment complex while he was on duty. Holmstrom contacted the tow truck company, identified himself as an officer, and threatened to detain one of their employees.[1]
Response Timeline
An internal investigation by the Professional Standards Bureau found that Holmstrom had violated policies regarding the misuse of authority, abuse of position or authority, emergency operation of police vehicles, extra duty employment policies, and personnel management.[2][1]
In January 2024, Holmstrom was fired.[3]
