Overview

On November 21, 2021, Centerville Iowa Police Department Officers Jacob Downs, Graffe Holmes, and Appanoose County Iowa Sheriff's Office Deputy Gary Buckallew responded to a domestic violence incident involving Arbogast and his estranged wife. Arbogast's 15-year-old son answered the door wearing a bulletproof vest, as Arbogast had told him that "something is going down". Arbogast appeared from behind the garage wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a rifle. Arbogast briefly pointed the rifle at officers while they ordered him to drop the rifle.[1]

After a few minutes, shots were fired, and Arbogast was struck and killed.[1]

The incident was captured by body-worn cameras and in-vehicle cameras.[1]

On December 3, 2021, the state Attorney General ruled that the actions of the officers were justified.[2][3]
