On September 22, 2021, Arias and other officers received the department's 10851 Award for working to reduce auto theft.[2]

Incident Reports

2021 Death of Kenneth Mackey

On June 12, 2021, multiple shootings were reported during a concert at a bar. Barstow officers and San Bernardino County California Sheriff's Department deputies responded, and additional shots were heard outside. Arias located Mackey, who was shooting into the air. As Mackey advanced, he lowered his handgun toward Arias, other officers, and people from the bar. Arias shot, striking Mackey. Mackey died at the hospital.[3]

The incident was captured on multiple body-worn cameras.[3]

Response Timeline

The San Bernardino County California Sheriff's Department opened an investigation.[3]

On July 7, 2023, the District Attorney's Office released their report, concluding that "Arias' use of deadly force was... legally justified".[3]
