2023 Death of Jesse Dominguez

News report with some video footage

On November 19, 2023, Dominguez was walking on the freeway. Ritter made contact. Dominquez refused to leave the freeway and a struggle began. Police claim that Dominquez gained control of Ritter's Taser and used it against Ritter. Ritter shot Dominquez.[1][2]

Dominquez died at the hospital.[1]

The incident was captured on Ritter's body-worn camera and a witness's cell phone camera.[3]

Response Timeline

The California Department of Justice will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting, which is required under state law for officer-involved shootings of unarmed individuals.[4]

On November 28, 2023, Dominquez's family filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging the use of excessive force.[2]
