2023 Death of Jesse Dominguez
On November 19, 2023, Dominguez was walking on the freeway. Ritter made contact. Dominquez refused to leave the freeway and a struggle began. Police claim that Dominquez gained control of Ritter's Taser and used it against Ritter. Ritter shot Dominquez.[1][2]
Dominquez died at the hospital.[1]
The incident was captured on Ritter's body-worn camera and a witness's cell phone camera.[3]
Response Timeline
The California Department of Justice will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting, which is required under state law for officer-involved shootings of unarmed individuals.[4]
On November 28, 2023, Dominquez's family filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging the use of excessive force.[2]
