Overview

Critical Incident Video

On June 18, 2022, the Fresno California Police Department received a call about a man waving a gun over his head in a park. Four officers responded and located Aceituno, who was armed with a handgun. Aceituno walked away from the officers and ignored commands to stop and drop the gun. Aceituno turned and walked towards the officers. Officers Bryce Hammond and Vishal Nayyar claimed that Aceituno raised his gun at them, prompting them to shoot.[1][2]

Officers rendered aid including CPR after the shooting. Aceituno died at the scene.[1][3]

The investigation determined that Aceituno had called 911 on himself.[2]

Hammond and Nayyar were placed on administrative leave.[4]

Video

The incident was captured on officers' body-worn cameras, but much of the primary video is obscured by the officer's hand.[1][3]

On September 5, 2022, the department released some video of the incident.[2]
