2022 Collision with Douglas Salom
On February 8, 2022, Hernandez was responding to a call about a stolen car when he struck a man who ran into the road from between two parked cars.[1]
Salom's leg was broken. Hernandez and his partner rendered aid until an ambulance arrived.[1]
The incident was captured on Hernandez's dash camera.[1]
Response Timeline
On November 16, 2022, Salom filed a lawsuit against the city, the department, and Hernandez.[2]
In April 2023, Hernandez was fired for excessive speed and causing serious injury to the victim.[1]
In August 2023, Hernandez's punishment was changed to four months of unpaid suspension, after which he was reinstated.[3]
