2020 DWI
On August 1, 2020, Bristo was seen by officers to be asleep in his vehicle before driving off. Officers stopped him and found him to be impaired.[4]
Response Timeline
On August 1, 2020, Bristo was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.[1]
Bristo was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.[1]
In February 2021, the case was dismissed as a judge determined there was no reasonable suspicion for the traffic stop.[4]
The department suspended Bristo for 45 days.[5]
2021 Oppression of Darrel Cox
On August 28, 2021, Cox had been arrested for public intoxication and was in a hospital with his wrists cuffed to a stretcher and his legs tied together. Bristo argued with Cox and used a lateral vascular neck restraint, which is only to be used when deadly force is necessary.[2][4]
Bristo failed to complete the proper reports after the incident.[2]

Bristo was arrested and charged with official oppression, a misdemeanor. During the arrest, he engaged in adverse conduct.[2]
On September 20, 2022, Bristo was terminated.[2]
In July 2023, Cox filed a lawsuit against Bristo, other officers, the city, and the police chief, for use of excessive and unnecessary force.[5]
