Overview

On November 19, 2021, San Francisco California Police Department Officers John Quinlan and Danny De Leon Garcia responded to a 911 call of a man threatening people with a knife at a residential hotel. Two victims directed the officers toward Amani's room, and they found Amani in the hallway.[1]

Quinlan drew his handgun and De Leon Garcia was armed with a "bean bag weapon". They called for other officers to bring a tactical shield and requested that an ambulance be staged nearby. Amani charged at the officers with the knife, and both officers fired.[1]

Officers waited several minutes until the tactical shield arrived before approaching Amani, disarming him, and rendering aid. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.[1]

Both officers were wearing body-worn cameras, which had been activated.[2]
